There is a charm to Paris in that it is quite
unlike any other city I know. Would it be fair to contrast
cities? For certain, each has its own draw, a sense that invades
the sensual and spiritual side, with its own unique sense
of time, history and place. Generally I cannot abide city’s
for more than a day (I say this of London in particular) and
favour the calmer, cleaner air of the countryside; however
Paris has a presence I can endure for far longer. I also have
the privilege of visiting several times a year and watching
the city transform throughout the seasons.
Whilst I try to refrain from snapping away at everything I
see - goodness knows there are enough tourists doing this,
just try to view the Mona Lisa at the Louvre without a dozen
cameras swarming around your head – I do like to keep
a Nikon digital SLR close at hand. As an artist of the slightly
more traditional persuasion I’m attracted by a sense
of composition or play of light that evokes an emotional response,
and where better than in the City of Light.
